Humboldt Literacy Project

History

In 1985, Humboldt State University grad student Lilly Gonsalez developed the idea of an adult literacy program. That idea was the genesis of Humboldt Literacy Project.

In the 25 years since Lilly's great idea, HLP has helped hundreds of people improve their lives by becoming more literate.

Our Mission

• To teach adults in Humboldt County the literacy skills they need on the job, at home, and in our community.
  
  
• To increase public awareness regarding the magnitude and negative effects of illiteracy.
  
  
• To build public awareness about the social, political, economic, and cultural value of literacy.
