Carla joined the Humboldt Literacy Project team in 2009 after graduating from Stanford University with a B.A. in English/Creative Writing. Carla works primarily in HLP's Eureka office and loves being able to walk to to the office (when the rain lets up). In addition to collaborating with HLP's generous volunteer tutors and dedicated learners, she is about to complete her first novel. In July, Carla also begins work on a graduate degree in creative writing through Warren Wilson College. The mother of four grown sons, she lives with her husband in the Eureka home where five generations of her family have lived. Lisa Abram-Nelson received her B.A. degree in bilingual education from the University of Northern Colorado and M.A. in multicultural/ESL education from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Working as an ESL Specialist for the Boulder Valley School District for nine years gave her the opportunity to create a model ESL program in an ESL magnet school, including curriculum and assessment design. Throughout her career Lisa has taught English to learners from twenty five different language groups. She has traveled to Latin America, Europe and Asia and now makes her home in Eureka with her husband and rescue pup. |
